Harrow Recognises Longest-Serving Walking Volunteers After 18 Years
Harrow Council honoured its longest-serving walking volunteers on 4 May 2026, celebrating 18 years of community leadership. The recognition event highlighted the volunteers’ dedication to promoting health and wellbeing through regular group walks.

Harrow Council held a ceremony on 4 May 2026 to recognise the significant contributions of its longest-serving walking volunteers, who have led community walks for 18 years. The event underscored the vital role these volunteers play in encouraging physical activity and fostering social connections among residents.
According to the council, the volunteers have collectively led hundreds of walks since the initiative began, supporting thousands of local participants. The recognition comes as part of Harrow’s ongoing commitment to public health, with council representatives praising the volunteers’ unwavering commitment and positive impact on the borough.
Several volunteers were named and thanked during the ceremony, with Harrow Council officials presenting certificates and sharing stories of the volunteers’ influence on the community. The event took place at a local venue, attended by council members, volunteers, and residents who have benefited from the walking programme.
The walking initiative began in 2008 as a response to growing concerns about inactivity and isolation, and has since become a staple of Harrow’s community health strategy. The council plans to expand the programme further, aiming to recruit new volunteers and increase participation in the coming years.
