Fire-Damaged Rising Sun Pub in Sudbury Hill May Become Flats
The Rising Sun pub in Sudbury Hill, Harrow, which suffered significant fire damage in 2022, could be redeveloped into residential flats. A planning application has been submitted to Harrow Council proposing the conversion of the historic pub into new housing. The move comes after the building has remained vacant since the blaze.

The Rising Sun, a well-known pub located on Greenford Road in Sudbury Hill, has stood empty since a major fire in July 2022 caused extensive damage to the property. The latest planning application seeks to transform the site into a block of flats, marking a significant change for the local landmark.
According to documents submitted to Harrow Council, the proposal outlines the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of a new building comprising 14 residential units. The plans include a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom flats, as well as associated parking and landscaping. The application notes that the pub has been unviable as a business since the fire and that redevelopment would provide much-needed housing in the area.
The planning application has been submitted by the site's current owners, who argue that restoring the pub is not economically feasible. The proposal has already drawn comments from local residents and councillors, with some expressing concern over the loss of a community asset, while others support the creation of new homes. Harrow Council is currently reviewing the application and is expected to make a decision in the coming months.
The Rising Sun had served the Sudbury Hill community for decades before the fire forced its closure. The outcome of the planning process will determine whether the site will be preserved as a public house or redeveloped to address local housing needs.
